Forest Trainers visited the DLG-Waldtage 2025 forestry trade fair, held in September in Lichtenau, Germany. The purpose of the trip was to explore the German forestry market and assess interest in validation tests for forest machine operators.
During the fair, we met with a wide range of industry stakeholders: machine manufacturers, insurance representatives, forest machine operators, and harvesting companies. From these discussions, a clear and consistent message emerged – there is genuine demand for operator validation tests.

The validation test provides numerous practical advantages:
- For the operator, the validation test provides an opportunity to receive an objective assessment of their skills and to identify potential areas for development. It supports professional growth and can help advance career progression.
- For the employer, the test makes employees’ skill levels visible, helps to target training more effectively, and supports resource planning. This ensures high-quality and safe work performance.
- For machine manufacturers, the data produced through validation testing offers valuable insight into how operators use machines in real working conditions. This information can be used to develop more user-centric solutions and training.
The benefits of the validation test also extend to the environment. When operators’ skills are verified and up to date, machines are used more efficiently and with greater care for the terrain. This reduces unnecessary fuel consumption, soil damage, and avoidable harm to standing trees. High-quality work supports sustainable forestry and the preservation of biodiversity.
Our visit to Germany clearly demonstrated that ensuring and developing operator competence is of strong international interest as well – and Forest Trainers is actively contributing to this progress.
